Desktop POS: Database Migration Procedure

A simple check list when performing a database migration with Desktop POS (RMS) Internal Only!

This is a simple Check-List for Performing a database migration (With POS)

The steps listed here may vary from site to site, and this article is meant as a general list of actions required for the migration. It is also recommended that the SQL install be handled ahead of time and the new server machine be set up prior to performing the actual migration

1. Confirm Specs on new Database Machine

  • i5 Processor or better
  • 6GB of RAM or more

2. Connect to the new Server machine and install SQL 2012 or newer

3. Ensure you have Credit Card Payment Details or schedule a time for 3rd Party Installation of Credit Card Interface

4. Back Up the Database

5. Restore the Database on the new Server

6. Configure SQL (Named Pipes, TC/IP, Firewall, etc.)

7. Install RMS, ProductControl, OPOS, Payment Processing

8. Configure Products to connect to the Database

9. Detach the old Database on the old Server Machine

10. Unregister ProductControl Products on old machine

11. Install, Register, and hook Products for ProductControl

12. Test POS and Credit Transaction

13. Uninstall products on old machine

14. Setup Share on new machine and move folders and files from the old share to the new one.

15. Setup new RMS_Backup.bat file and task scheduler for auto backup

16. Connect to other POS machines and B.O. Machines and reconfigure for connection to the new server
