Restoring A Database

Brief Description: Restoring a database is a convenient function for recovering a database that may have been corrupted, modified in a harmful way, or deleted.

Trigger: You have previously backed up your databaseYour database has been compromised and you would like to recover a previous version.

Estimated time for completion: 5 - 15 minutes.

Prerequisites:

  • Access to Store Operations - Administrator
  • .BCK or .BAK file of desired database

Procedure:

  1. Create a Backups folder in the MRMS\NVPOS folder
  2. Copy the BCK or BAK file and, also, copy the backup script file to this new folder
  3. Launch Store Operations - Administrator and connect
  4. Select 'Database' | 'Create' to initiate the Create Database wizard:
    • Click 'Next'
    • Input database name (Format: RMS_[company_name]) and click 'Next'
    • Accept defaults on the database growth window and click 'Next'
    • Browse to/select the BCK or BAK file that we copied in step 2 and click 'Next'
    • Click 'Finish' to complete restoration

5. Click on 'File' | 'Configuration' and configure the Database tab to point at the new database

6. Click 'Test Database' and verify you are able to connect.

If the test is successful, then you have correctly restored the database.
