Desktop POS: Typical System Down Issues

Common issues that occur in vinSUITE Desktop POS

Issue#1: The customer clicks on POS, after a short delay, they receive an error indicating the machine cannot connect to the database:

  • If the database resides on the same machine, there is a 99% chance that the SQL Service is not running.
    • Solution: Open Services (Hit 'Start', type Services, select Services)
    • Find the following service:

      MSSQLSERVER SQL Service

Note: For most of our customers, they will be using the default instance name for SQL. They could be using a named instance, e.g.: RMS, SQLEXPRESS, etc.

Issue#2: Credit Card Processing is Down.

  • Check internet connect by requesting to get connected. If this fails, they are likely having a network outage
  • If you are able to connect, request a test transaction be done and reference the error message on-screen. In most cases, this will be a message coming from the processor and you will need to reach out to the processor for further investigation.
  • If this is OpenEdge and their SecurePlus window does not come up on tender, you can try repairing the SecurePlus software from Programs and Features.
