TPOS Card Reader Troubleshooting Guide
Common Problems and Solutions
If you're experiencing issues with your TPOS card reader, such as pairing problems, connection loss, or failed card reads, follow the steps below to resolve them.
Problem: Device Cannot Be Paired
Recommendations:
-
Press and hold the power button to restart the reader.
-
Check if the device?s Serial Number (found on the back) appears in the Scanned Device List on your iPad or iPhone.
-
Ensure the reader is not already paired with another device.
Problem: Device Appears Connected but Doesn?t Respond (C3X Only)
What Might Be Happening:
-
Some users experience a known iOS issue where the BBPOS Chipper C3X appears connected (green dot in TPOS), but actions like processing a card cause a spinner that times out.
-
This is often due to an unstable Bluetooth pairing at the iOS level. While newer iOS versions address this, issues may still occur.
How to Resolve:
-
Open your iPad?s Bluetooth Settings.
-
Locate the connected BBPOS device.
-
Tap ?Forget This Device?.
-
Return to TPOS and re-initiate pairing.
Note: If the issue persists, try restarting your iPad to reset the Bluetooth stack.
Problem: Device Lost Connection When Auto-Off Occurred
Recommendations:
-
Press the power button to turn the device back on. It should reconnect automatically.
-
Keep your iPad within 10 meters (approximately 30 feet) of the reader without major obstructions.
-
Charge the reader if the battery is low.
Problem: Device Does Not Work With Your Phone or Tablet
Recommendations:
-
Ensure Bluetooth is turned on.
-
Verify that your iPad is running iOS 14.0 or later.
-
Re-pair the device through Bluetooth settings if necessary.
Problem: Device Cannot Read Your Card Successfully
If Swiping or Inserting a Card:
-
Ensure the device has power and is connected.
-
Follow the on-screen prompt to swipe, insert, or tap your card.
-
Confirm there are no obstructions in the card slot.
-
Verify the card is inserted in the correct direction.
-
Swipe/insert the card at a consistent pace.
-
Clean the card reader slot if issues persist.
If Tapping a Card (NFC):
-
Confirm the card supports NFC payments.
-
Hold the card within 4 cm of the reader?s NFC area.
-
Remove the card from wallets or sleeves to avoid interference.
-
Hold the card still during the tap process.
Problem: Device Has No Response
Recommendation:
-
Use a paper clip to press the reset button located on the bottom of the reader.
-
After resetting, re-pair the device from the Bluetooth settings if needed.
