Updating SPF for Improved Email Deliverability

This article covers how to update SPF and DKIM records to enable better email deliverability.

Updating SPF Records

To help the deliverability of our clients' emails, vinSUITE routinely updates its mailserver. To ensure that each client has the best chance for an email to go through, they need to update their individual SPF records with their domain host.

What is SPF?

Sender Policy Framework (SPF) is a method of fighting spam. As more time passes, this protocol will be used as one of the standard methods of fighting spam on the Internet. An SPF record is a TXT record that is part of a domain's DNS zone file. The TXT record specifies a list of authorized host names/IP addresses that mail can originate from for a given domain name. Once this entry is placed within the DNS zone, no further configuration is necessary to take advantage of servers that incorporate SPF checking into their anti-spam systems. This SPF record is added the same way as a regular A, MX, or CNAME record.

Process for Updating SPF

Please contact support, support@vinsuite.com , to get the recommended SPF record for your domain, this record should already contain any other sources you email from if they exist in your current SPF record. Please refer to your internal IT support to review as necessary.

Once you have the new SPF information, your DNS will need to be updated. Your IT support will know how to update it, or you can refer to instructions from your DNS host (note, vinSUITE is most likely NOT your DNS host--in most cases your DNS host is where you register your domain name). For example, if GoDaddy is your DNS host, here are their instructions: https://www.godaddy.com/help/add-an-spf-record-19218

Once you have updated your DNS with the new SPF information, you can test it by going to: https://mxtoolbox.com/spf.aspx

The results should include _spf.vinsuite.com but may not look exactly like the below:
