vinSight Dashboard User Guide - Part 2

Interactive Filtering

How Filtering Works

The vinSight Dashboard uses cross-filtering, meaning when you click on any data element, the entire dashboard updates to show only information related to your selection.

Example: If you click on "CA" in the ShipState table, all charts, graphs, and metrics will update to show only California sales data.

Applying Multiple Filters

You can apply multiple filters simultaneously to drill deeper into your data:

  1. Click on a state (e.g., CA) in the ShipState or BillState table
  2. Then click on a product (e.g., "2022 Cabernet Sauvignon") in the ProductName table
  3. The dashboard now shows only California sales of that specific wine

To select multiple items within the same table:

  • Hold down Ctrl (Windows) or Command (Mac) while clicking multiple items
  • Example: Select both CA and AZ to see combined data for those two states

Common Filtering Scenarios

By Geography:

  • ShipState: Filter by where products were shipped
  • BillState: Filter by billing address (useful for identifying customer home location vs. gift shipping)
  • ShipCity / BillCity: Drill down to specific cities

By Payment Method:

  • Card Type: View Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Non-CreditCard transactions

By Sales Channel:

  • Use the bar chart in the upper right to filter by Club, Store, MobilePOS, or Admin sales

By Product:

  • Click on any wine or product in the ProductName table to analyze its performance

By Sales Associate:

  • Toggle between Member's Name (all customers including wine club members) and Sales Associate Name (cashier/staff who processed the sale)
  • Click on individual names to see their specific performance

By Time Period:

  • Use the Hour_Group table to analyze sales by time of day
  • Identify peak sales hours to optimize staffing

Understanding the Visualizations

Trend Line Chart (Center)

This chart shows performance over time with both current year (solid orange line) and last year (dotted line) for comparison.

Metric Tabs:

  • AOV: Average order value over time
  • Bottles: Number of bottles sold
  • Orders: Number of transactions
  • Sales: Total sales revenue
  • Total Sales: Comprehensive sales view
  • Volume: Volume in liters
  • Volume 9L: Volume in 9-liter case equivalents

Click any tab to switch the view. The chart title updates to reflect your selection (e.g., "Showing AOV Data for...").

Bar Chart (Upper Right)

Shows sales distribution by channel:

  • Club: Wine club sales
  • Store: Tasting room/retail sales
  • MobilePOS: Mobile point-of-sale transactions
  • Admin: Administrative orders

Color coding:

  • Dark orange bars = Current year
  • Light peach bars = Last year

Click any bar to filter the entire dashboard by that channel.

Product Performance (Right Side)

Lists your wines and products with:

  • KPI Selected: The metric being displayed (changes based on trend chart selection)
  • Last Year: Previous year's performance
  • YoY %: Year-over-year percentage change (green = growth, red = decline)

Click any product row to filter all dashboard data to that specific product.

Data Tables

Card Type Table: Shows payment method breakdown with year-over-year comparison. Useful for understanding customer payment preferences and potential processing fee impacts.

ShipState / BillState Tables: Geographic sales distribution. Compare ShipState (destination) vs. BillState (customer location) to understand gift shipping patterns.

Sales Associate / Member's Name: Toggle between these views to analyze:

  • Member's Name: Performance by customer (useful for identifying top customers and VIP relationships)
  • Sales Associate Name: Performance by staff member (useful for commissions, training needs, and staffing decisions)

Hour_Group Table: Shows sales volume by time of day for each day of the week. Heat mapping (darker orange = higher volume) helps identify:

  • Peak traffic times for staffing
  • Quiet periods for scheduling events or maintenance
  • Day-of-week patterns

Working with Data Tables

Each data table in the dashboard has additional capabilities accessed by hovering over the table:

Table Actions

When you hover over any data table, you'll see three icons in the upper right corner:

Filter Icon: Quickly filter the table content

Focus Mode Icon (expand): Opens the table in full-screen view for detailed analysis. Press Esc or click the back arrow to return to the main dashboard.

More Options (three dots): Opens a menu with additional actions:

  • Export data: Download table data to Excel for external analysis
  • Show as a table: Toggle between different visualization formats
  • Spotlight: Highlight specific data elements
  • Get insights: Let AI identify trends and patterns in the data
  • Sort descending: Order data from highest to lowest
  • Sort ascending: Order data from lowest to highest
  • Sort by: Choose which column to sort by

Exporting Data

To export any table to Excel:

  1. Hover over the table
  2. Click the More Options (three dots) icon
  3. Select Export data
  4. Choose your preferred format and save location
